Fever Attack 28 Apr '09

Over the weekend, Ashlynn started coughing. It kinda got worse as we could hear the phlegm. But the poor girl doen't know how to spit it out. Early in the morning at about 3am, she starting developing fever. Daddy was the one who detected it as she was making noise, which sounded unusual. Daddy took her temperature and realised that it was around 38+ degree celcius. He started sponging her till her temperature dropped to 37+ degree celcius. He sacrificed his sleep as he knew that I had to wake up at 4am, so he didn't disturb me.

He took leave today and I left work at 2+ to bring her to the doctor. Doctor said that as she was teething big time, her immunity is lower, hence the recurrence of fever and development of cough. Antibiotics will be administered if she doesn't get better by thursday... sigh...

Our poor baby... She looks so tired and weak just now. Also refused to drink water and take her medicine. It's going to be a big headache for us.

Hope she gets well soon to enjoy the long weekend with us.

Our Saturday 25 Apr '09

Daddy went for route march in the morning. Leaving the 2 ladies behind at home. It was so hard feeding Ashlynn breakfast.

Suspected causes:

1) She didn't like the new cereal
2) She hates being confined in the bumbo seat

For lunch, it was very bad also even though daddy was there to help.

Suspected causes:

1) She didn't like xiao bai cai
2) She hates being confined in the bumbo seat

For dinner, she managed to finish everything

Success factors:

1) I added spinach instead of xiao bai cai in her porridge
2) We were eating with our clique. She enjoyed the crowd.
3) She was seating on high chair.

Her feeding issues are getting on my nerves. Granny said at least I only feed her on weekends, but she has to feed her everyday. Sigh... But to be very frank, yes only on weekends, but it is not as easy as I have tonnes of schoolwork at the back of my mind.

Maybe it's time to rant off my frustrations. Since the start of this year, I have been so loaded with new responsibilities. I am never able to complete my work in school. On weekdays, I wake up at 4+am. On weekends, I wake up at 5am. I shared with daddy that there is seldom a moment when I will sit down to take a break. It this continues, I think I am going to breakdown soon. I want to quit my job!!

A Not So Lucky Saturday (or week)

It started off with Ashlynn developing fever, then not subsiding and rushing her to KK Hospital. After her fever subsided, she had the worst appetite ever, refusing her cereals, porridge and even her milk intake dropped. We suspected that her poor appetite was due to some phlegm. So we fed her the cough mixture provided by Dr Wong. Hopefully she will get well soon.

It was a super suay day for us.
Firstly, I spent few hours trying to feed her breakfast and lunch. In the end, she still couldn't finish most of her usual portions.

Secondly, when we returned home from lunch, as we were parking the car, daddy noticed people crowding near his bike. He was shocked to see the visor broken and his side mirrors were gone. Luckily the person who caused the accident was still around. If we had come back later, the driver would have scuted off. Dunno whether this is lucky or not. Daddy sent us to LNT class and had to leave to send the bike for assessment.

Thirdly, Ashlynn was totally disengaged in class today. Not sure if it was Japanese Language and she didn't understand, or is it the teacher? There were many factors affecting I guess. There were 6 babies in the class and it was super crowded! 2 of them were having their trial class. Ashlynn was so noisy that I felt bad towards the rest who wanted to concentrate. She might be tired also as she only napped for 15 min. After the class, we went home on our own. Initially planned to go United Square to shop, but because daddy came home very late, we stayed at home and he packed dinner back.

Lastly, we had the worst scare ever! After our dinner, we needed to go to Fairprice to stock up on groceries. As were getting out of the lift, this blur mummy allowed Ashlynn to walk out on her own. Suddenly she made a loud ahhhhh.... We thought she was playing and laughing, then to realise that she was screaming... We didn't know what happened until I noticed her face was in pain and omigod! her little fingers were stuck in the gap of the lift door. We panicked and daddy pulled her hand out. By the time, she was already inconsolable. Poor thing. We were so worried that her fingers were broken. I didn't dare to check, being fearful of the worst. As she was crying, Daddy checked and saw that the skin on 2 of her fingers had came off and it looked like abrasion to him. She was also able to clunch her fingers, so there shouldn't be any broken bones. We went to the pharmacy to buy antiseptic to clean the wound and bought Mickey Mouse plaster to dress her wound. Our hearts were so pain... She seemed fine after that as she was still able to play with us, occasionally admiring her Mickey Mouse plasters. When I asked her "pain pain where?", she will show me her fingers. Daddy asked to stop reminding her of the pain... Hee... Anyway, I really learnt a lesson. We really have to be very watchful when we allow the her to roam about. It was all my fault that she has to suffer the pain. I will never let her walk in/out of the lift on her own ever again.

Papa, Mama & Me! 16 Apr '09

Saw this Gain IQ promotion at NTUC and couldn't resist buying the set of Papa, Mama and Me bears. Daddy says I always can't resist the temptation of promotions whenever I go shopping alone.

Immediately got daddy to print out our family photos to be out into the frames. Too bad we do not have our #2 yet as the Brother/Sister bear was also available.

I think Ashlynn will have a pleasant surprise when she sees them.

What a Way to Celebrate Ashlynn's 14-Month Birthday 15 Apr '09

We decided to bring Ashlynn to KKH Emergency at 10+pm as her fever had crept to 39.2 degree celcius. We were worried as it was not coming down, instead it kept going higher. We can also sense some lethargy in her as the night came.

This was our first time at the hospital and we were quite shock by the number of children there. Most of them were suffering from fever. As her fever was 39.5 degree celcius when taken by the triage nurse, we were given priority and got to see the doctor quite quickly. Doc could not detect anything serious except it could be some viral infection or urinary tract infection. We waited for the longest time for her to pee and when she finally squeezed out that few drops, the preliminary test the nurse did on the small sample did not show favourable results, hence had to be sent for further lab testing, By then, it was almost 1am and all of us were dead beat. Finally we were given a clear for the urine test to our relief. We were told to go back if the fever persists for another 5 days.

Ashlynn was already sleeping when we returned home. We left her at granny's place as mummy needs to report to work early. Mummy is left with only 3 hours of sleep. Think I will be a zombie when I go to work. As long as baby recovers soon, I don't really care about the lost of sleep!

Baby is Sick!!! 13 Apr '09

Ashlynn was down with fever since sunday morning. This morning, the fever reached a high 38.5 degree celcius, so I decided to take child mc and bring her to the doctor. Granny wanted to accompany us but I told her no need as I think I can handle on my own, especially now she can walk.

We reached the clinic at about 10am but was told that we had to wait 1.5 hrs. Thank goodness our girl was cooperative throughout the wait.

This was what we did:

On the car, she was bright and cheery :)
Most of the shops were not opened. So we walked around and put her in a Thomas the Train joy ride while I rested my arm. Told her that "Come, mummy carry", she waved her arm to tell me no no. I think she still wanted to play. Nevertheless, I carried her out. Lucky she did not create a din like the previous time. Maybe she is not well, so no strength to protest.

We walked around and I spotted starbucks, so I went in to have my mid-morning caffeine fix. I read magazines while she self-entertained. Really felt like a tai tai (low class one) for once.

We went to FOX to look around then I even brought her to the Ladies. I chose the handicap cubicle so that she has room to roam about. Next, we went to Cold Storage and lastly more joy rides.

Erm... She is not smiling at me, but to a man who passed by.

Last ride before we left for the clinic.

In the clinic, she played in the toy house while waiting for her turn. Think she enjoyed being inside. Kept peering out at others, trying to get attention.

The doc said should not be dengue fever as she is still active. The fever will probably take a few days to subside. By thur if it is still there or if rashes develops, then we have to bring her back for a blood test.

Some updates: She is 9.15 kg now and her 1st molar is emerging.

Saturday 11 Apr '09

Woke up to clear work from school as I have tons of them... Sigh... Everyday (including weekends) I wake up early to clear my work plus to update the blog... heee.... Really thinking if I should get a new job so that I can spend more time with my family. Anyway, back to the topic. Daddy woke up and prepared breakfast for us. yummy... and thanks daddy for the effort.

I had a tough time feeding Ashlynn breakfast and lunch. When daddy took over to feed her lunch, she made things easier for him by eating abit more. After she finished her lunch, I have to start preparing her dinner as we were going out soon. It was her first lesson at LNT. I think she enjoyed herself except she got quite tired towards the end. The activities were very interesting and the tools used were very innovative.

After the lesson, we shopped around and went for tea break. After that, we proceeded to meet up with our clique for dinner at Suntec. Again, she was fussing around during dinner and kept demanding to walk. She also wanted to go on the joy ride. When I carried her down, she really screamed her head off. My friends were quite surprise by her behaviour. I told them she is always like this, but they said they have never seen this side of her. They always thought that she is very mild-tempered. I guess she hid it very well. She is a lttle tyrant in my opinion.

When we got home, we saw that she was still quite awake, so we decided to bathe her to make her more comfortable as she perspired quite a lot today. As the bathroom floor was slippery, she fell and knocked her head and started her crying episode again. Guess we need to get a non-slip mat very soon. Finally daddy put her to bed.

Ashlynn's New Friend 10 Apr '09

Ashlynn is quite timid. She is always wary of new things. The first video showed how she is scared of a musical doll and in the second video, she has gotten used to it and was carrying it around, even attempting to pat it.

Jacob Ballas Children's Garden 10 Apr '09

We finally found a chance to bring our little princess to Jacob Ballas Children's Garden at the Botanic Garden for a walk. The weather was bright and sunny, so we were able to get very nice pictures. The pics only had Ashlynn and myself as daddy was the appointed photographer.

It was a nice place but we felt that it was more for the bigger kids although we saw lots of parents bringing their babies there and they were much younger than Ashlynn.

Leaving the house for breakfast at Eastpoint before we headed to our destination.

Enjoying the greenery.
Getting ready for the walk. Mummy had to help the little princess slap on some sunblock due to the glazing sun.
Nice pic.
We went into the maze.
Little princess performing at Botanic Garden.
Engrossed...
Lots of hands-on for Ashlynn.

We also let her sit on the ground to feel things.

Another mummy and baby shot.
We put her on a huge log, but she didn't dare to stand up. She stayed in the squat position.

After much persuasion, she stood up, but dunno why she flashed her tummy.

She was so warm. The sweat was streaming down her face.
She enjoyed crossing the bridge.

Walking around and kaypohing.
We had lunch at MacDonalds'. She usually does not like adult food, but she seemed to enjoy the fries. She takes after mummy, who loves Mac's fries.
It was a nice family outing.

AGAIN!!! 05 Apr '09

Ashlynn kena mozzie attack again. Her limbs and face were not spared. The scars left behind from the previous attack have yet to fade off and here comes more new scars. I hope she doesn't grow up with the 5-cents, 10-cents marks on her legs. Really wondered why the attack since I already applied insect repellent and dressed her in long sleeved top & pants at night. I even applied some ruyi oil on her hair and clothes as advised by one of my friend's mother, who is an experienced nanny. Sigh...

Anyway, apart from the mozzie issue, our gal is growing up real fast. Some updates before I forget:
- drinks 210ml of Gain IQ 3 times a day, holding the bottle herself.

- 3 solid meals: breakfast - HT cereal with a portion of baby foor jar for flavour, lunch & dinner - porridge. She has yet to venture into other foods as a full meal. She rejected pasta, be it cooked it soup stock or tomato-base.

- starts to walk much faster. Daddy felt kinda weird as we saw her walked towards us when she woke up in the morning instead of her usual crawling and crying towards us.

- babbles a lot these days. But stopped calling papa. She also stopped making many of her hand gestures like bye bye, french kiss, good good. Wondered why she always does things in phases.

- like to "talk" on real phone.

- will put her piglet stuff toy in her toy pram and push around the house.

- like to carry a handbag on her shoulders or hand around her elbow and walk around.

- loves to play with all the switches and fans in the house.

- falls asleep on her own (at times).

- helps mummy wipe furniture.

- very hard to help her put on her diapers, so we are slowly moving on to use pull-up pants when we are outside.

- refused to be carried when we go out. Prefers to walk on her own.

- hates to have her teeth and tongue brushed.

- loves to make different expressions.

- understands more words now (but cannot speak). She will feed us when we say "give mummy/daddy eat". She will pass things to us when we say "give daddy/mummy". She will go to look for the right person when we ask her to do so.

There is still a lot more updates. I will write them down when I remember them.

Eh... Where is Ashlynn. haha... She is being covered up by the menu. This was taken at Fish & Co. at Tampines Mall on Sat night.

Deciding what food to order.
She knows how to wear a hat.
The following pics were taken on Sun morning. I let her wear my hairband as her hair is covering her face.
Playing on her own.
Getting ready to go out.
Family pic :)

Ashlynn's New Shoes

Recently, she has this habit of wearing our shoes whenever she finds the opportunity. In the pic, she is carrying a bag which granny dug out from the cupboard, holding on to a crocodile keychain given by daddy'a friend and wearing daddy's shoes. She refused to put down her bag and the keychain. She was practically holding on to them the whole night. Really strange baby with weird habits...

New Stuffs for Darling 01 Apr '09

Daddy had to work late, so I had to settle dinner on my own. Popped by Eastpoint to get a quick bite and happened to see Popular having a pushcart sale for baby books, so I grabbed a few board books for Ashlynn. I also bought her board to doodle on after knowing that she quite like it after we her tried writing on it last weekend.

She really enjoyed writing on it so much so much so that she threw a huge tantrum when I brought her to another room to change her diapers. I want to see how long her interest in this new toy will stay as she always get sick of her toys very quickly.
