More Food Variety 25 Nov '08

Decided to prepare more puree for ashlynn while we are away to Hong Kong. I brought ashlynn to the supermarket in the afternoon to buy the stuff and went home to make the pork stock. Ashlynn is growing older, so I think it's time to upgrade her diet to include more meats rather than just vegetables and fruits.

I only had enough time to prepare the stock and steam some pears and carrots, then I needed to prepare ashlynn to go out. We were going to visit daddy's good friend who just had a baby.

By the time we reached home, I had to puree all the foods and I finished doing everything at 12 midnight. Luckily daddy helped with the washing up.

Ashlynn's snack in the afternoon. Mashed tofu with vegetable stock. Looks like tau hway.

First Taste of Egg Yolk + Weekend Activities

Ashlynn had her first taste of egg yolk on Fri, 21 Nov. Granny gave her a quarter in the morning and ashlynn seemed to like it. Good, another form of nutrients for her. She did not develop any allergy after eating it. Will tell granny to increase the "dosage" to half an egg yolk.

It was a sad saturday for mummy as I was down for school open house from 9am to 4pm. Daddy and ashlynn came to pick me up as this was the first time ashlynn been to my workplace. Tired and groggy, she did not display her usual smiley self. She managed to see my good friends in school. After that we went to ah ma's place for dinner. Chloe was there. Ah ma looked after her for like a good ten years. She just finished her PSLE and was there to play with ashlynn. Her father bought some clothes for ashlynn and also a very cute soft toy which we couldn't figure out what was it. It was named "Lamp Chop" cause I decided that it looked more like a lamb. Ashlynn liked it alot and giggled when we passed it to her. I hope that this is going to be her "good friend". At ah ma's house, I felt that ashlynn smelled unpleasant, so I told daddy that she pooed. But daddy said she already pooed twice that day so we brushed it off. Until very much later, when we were leaving for Orchard and wanted to change her diapers, to my horror, she really pooed. I could tell that it has been quite long as the poo poo already dried up and she was a little reddish. I am very disappointed with my self that she has to suffer. It must have been uncomfortable.

On sunday, we went for breakfast. We did not have to rushed any housework as we finally got a part-time domestic cleaner and she will be coming today. We went grocery shopping and I wanted to make more puree for her while we are away for our hong kong trip. We came home from breakfast and we made her porridge stock and steamed some cauliflower and carrots. She had her shower and took a nap. After that she had her porridge and we were off for lunch again. We went to Popular to look at some educational dvds. She has her preference like us now. When she likes something, she will hold on so tightly and if we try to take away from her, she will scream her head off.

One-week supply of vegetable stock and cauliflower-carrot puree
In the evening, we went out for dinner at Pearl River Restuarant with granny and grandpa. We had buffet. The food is so-so. I think I prefer those international buffet. Again, ashlynn pooed and by the time we realised that, she was red again. There was no baby room or changing facilities, so we had to make do on the sink area. Luckily granny was with me. Ashylnn was super hyper throughout dinner although we could see that she was sleepy. She enjoyed herself most watching other kids play. She was super knocked out by the time we reached home. Daddy too. haha...

On our way to the carpark, we passed this nice x'mas tree so we posed for some pics there

Ding Dong Ding Dong 19 Nov '08

Daddy went over to fetch ashlynn from granny's place last night. I didn't go over as I wanted to do some house work. It is quite impossible to do it when ashlynn is around.

Just as I finished mopping the floor, I heard the doorbell. Daddy as usual like to keep pressing the doorbell many times. I opened the door to a smiley ashlynn and this really made my day.

She looked hilarious with the almost empty baggy stapped across her shoulders. She was peering across PIE at the moving vehicles. Granny was the one who came up with the idea - to help daddy carry the bag.

She tried to showed me that she has a bag.
Missed having them around, so I went snap snap snap as they came in.
Last night, she cried pitifully again. It can't be her clothes prickling her as she was wearing an old top which she had no problem with. We checked the room temperature. It was neither too warm nor cold. I touched her forehead and little feet as taught by ah ma. They are not cold to the touch so she should not be having stomachache. Daddy suggested that she might need some milk. Bingo! He was right. We made milk for her and after finishing it frantically, she went to sleep. More peacefully.

Haha.. It has been long since she woke up for a milk feed. That was the reason why it did not cross my mind. Good, I hope to fatten her up.

Ashlynn - The Paper Shredder 17 Nov '08

From today onwards, I am an official SAHM (erm.. until Jan 2009). So I am taking care of ashlynn full time. Wah, she can really be a handful. Really look up to granny who has been taking care of her while I was working.

The first day with her kept me busy for the whole day. I really cannot leave her alone for even a minute. If she is quiet, she is definitely up to no good. This blur mummy here left her to eat paper a couple of times within a day. Daddy is going to kill me.

Incident #1
She finished her breakfast. I wanted to go wash up the utensils so I thought she looked quite engrossed in the tv show, so I let her "roamed" about. When I turned back to check on her, she was biting off the corner of the Straits Times which I left on the coffee table. I checked the papers, it is damp but still intact. So she didn't get to eat any "dessert".

Incident #2
I drove her to ah ma's place. I was quite tense as the journey was very long - Simei to Ghim Moh. Recently, she has been rejecting the car seat, so I was worried that she will start throwing tantrums in the car. Luckily she cooperated. But when I reached the carpark, her face was starting to cringe. So I quickly unbuckled her and carried her onto my lap while I tore the parking coupons. She tried to snatch the ones I was holding so I decided to give her the last page of the booklet which was the calendar. She started chewing. By the time I took out from her mouth, a big corner was missing. I tried to dig out, but she kept her mouth shut tightly. I got ah ma to help dig out, but she simply refused. Finally, she decided to swallow it. Oh no...

Incident #3
She had her milk and vomitted some out (dunno why recently she is regurgitating quite frequently). Instead of using her hanky, I decided to be environmentally unfriendly and used a pience of tissue to wipe her mouth. It got stuck on her lips and her tongue was so quick to sweep it into her mouth. This time we managed to dig it out from her mouth. Phew.

Next time, we must really be very careful about placing paper near her mouth. It seems like she enjoys eating paper.

Gabby's Birthday Celebration at East Coast Chalet 15 Nov '08

In the morning, we brought Ashlynn for her 9 months developmental assessment. She did not gain much weight, still hovering at the 7.7kg mark, while babies of her age are way off 8kg. Sigh... Her head circumference, height and weight are all in the 25th percentile. So she is considered proportional. What was checked:

1. Her measurements.

2. She had her hearing test. The nurse first took a toy and threw it onto the bed. Ashlynn was seated on daddy's lap. Ashlynn looked at the toy while the nurse held a buzzing device on both her left and right side. Ashlynn was supposed to take her attention off the toy to where the soft buzzing sound came from. It took some time for her left ear as there was quite a commotion outside the room and she was distracted by the noise.

3. Ashlynn was put on the bed. The nurse moved a toy in front of her. In a split second, ashlynn chased after the toy and the nurse praised her.

4. The nurse asked about her feeding patterns. Again, we were told to feed her egg yolk.

5. The nurse placed a little cube on her palm and ashlynn tried to pick it up with her fingers.

This assesment should free of charge as no one told us to proceed to the payment counter. I would say that it is not bad given that it free.

Later in the night, we attended our Carrin's baby boy's 2nd birthday celebration at East Coast Goldkist Resort last night. I had to bring my students for the Mediacorp Sudoku Competition in the afternoon, so we left ashlynn at granny's place. At about 6pm+ when the competition finally ended, I rushed to meet daddy and ashylnn at simei and made our way there. Luckily we made it in time for the cake cutting.

Ashlynn fell asleep when we reached the chalet. So we left her sleeping in the stroller while we had our dinner. Within minutes, we peered through the windows and saw Carrin carrying her. So fast wake up already. She looked puzzled and blur with so many people around. She took some time to warm up and regain her active self. I swear I heard her blabbering to herself. Very soft though.

I think with the stimulation at the chalet, she cried quite a few times in the night. She was screaming and wailing her heads off. I didn't know what was wrong but I changed her top as I felt that the design in front may be prickling her? It is an ON sleepsuit I bought recently.

Ashlynn's First visit to the Zoo - 09 Nov 08

It's a beautiful Sunday morning, the sky has just cleared after a heavy downpour overnight. We had planned to bring ashlynn to the zoo as we had free admission tickets (grandpa's company family day). He couldn't make it though as he had to work on the day. So me, daddy, granny and ashlynn went ahead.

Mummy woke up early as usual to cook ashlynn's breakfast and prepare some sweet potato and broccoli puree. After that we set off to pick granny up. Ashlynn refused to nap on the car ride to the zoo and we were worried that she will be tired there. Luckily she was rather well-behaved at the zoo despite the super warm weather. We were carrying her most of the time as we wanted to let her see the animals more clearly.

I would think that it will be better if ashlynn is older and can walk. She will enjoy herself more. Yes, she was captivated by the moving animals, but still yet to appreciate these creatures. We will definitely bring her there again when she is older.

On the whole, it was quite an enjoyable trip. We went to MacDonald's after that to cool ourselves down with icy refreshing drinks. Then home sweet home.

Ashlynn's Feeding Times 10 Nov '08

We tried to adjust her feeding times yesterday. But it turned out that she was quite unhappy with the new timings.

Original Feeding Schedule:
6.30am - 150ml FM
9.30am - porridge
12.30pm - 150ml
4pm - cereal with puree
7.30pm - 150ml FM
10pm - 150ml FM

I find this timing really weird. Porridge for breakfast? And cereal as tea break? Seems like no proper lunch and dinner. I don't want Ashynn to grow up with weird eating times.

So, we decided to implement a new timing:
6.30am - 150ml FM
9am - 150ml FM
11+pm - porridge
3.30pm - cereal
7.30pm - 150ml FM
10pm - 150ml FM

It turns out that Ashlynn was very angry and refused to drink a single drop of the milk at 9.30am.

Granny said she will try to improvise further and we shall see how's her feeding times today.

Adventure with Daddy-08 Nov

Hahah finally got a chance to bring Ashlynn out on my own, yes only 2 of us.... :P

Went to fetch Ashlynn from my mum to meet Mummy at Redhill MRT.... She showed me a lot of new tricks she learnt- Showing the thumbs up sign and also pushing the toys blocks through the hole with her fingers....
Below are some pics before getting ready for her adventure ride....

Ashlynn first trip on bus and MRT with Daddy wasn't a bad experience.
She was a good gal during the trip, look here look there on the bus and the MRT as well. (her usual Kaypoh behaviour). Maybe she was a bit naughty when she tried to grab the lady (next to us)'s handbag which is quite colourful.

I think people around us might find a man and baby a bit weird as I find that a lot of people were looking at us when we came into the train. Maybe they thought its a "Nai Pa Bai Fen Bai" sequel?
Hahaha......

Maybe Ashlynn next trip with daddy would be her swimming lesson, shopping trip....etc? Who knows......

Daddy

A Weekend Packed with Programmes 09 Nov '08

Yesterday was a busy day for us. In the morning, daddy and I did household chores. As usual I prepared ashlynn's porridge. There was no time for me to prepare any puree for her :(

We rushed to IKEA for lunch as I need to get photo frames for my graduating class. We had lunch at the forever crowded cafe and I actually brought along ashlynn's Yoplait baby yogurt to feed her there. She ate about half of the tub and daddy finished the rest. The tub is simply to big for a baby to finish. I think Yoplait should consider reducing the volume and reducing the price! I don't think I will buy it again. I suspect ashlynn was not taking the yogurt well. But for the restof the day, she kept vomitting her milk out. Quite a number of times actually, which was unlikely of her. She has actually stopped vomiting milk out ever since her little tummy grew bigger to accomodate more food.

We spend quite some time there, especially at the kids department as ashlynn was fascinated with the wide variety of colourful soft toys there. Daddy and I were, too attracted by them.

We were trying to see which toy she likes
The ugly shark is going to eat up baby Ashlynn!!!!
We thought ashlynn will be fascinated by the lights on the x'mas tree. It turned out that she is only interested in the price tag!
Ashlynn looks like daddy?
Or mummy? See, she is even trying to imitate my pose! :) haha.. I think there was a similac pic of us in an earlier pose and I am wearing the same top.
After that we went to GIANT to do grocery shopping. Heinz was having promotion - 2 for $2.48 (if I don't remember wrongly). We bought the custard and dessert flavours but in the end these 2 were not on offer! We also bought her stroller fans - 2 for $9.99. Quite worth it but the colours were not too attractive. After that we rushed home as it was almost meal time.

Ashlynn's 1st time on the trolley. Not too successful. As she bent and hit her face against the side of the trolley. We ended up carrying her for the rest of the shopping trip.
After her meal, we rushed off to United Square to collect her Polo Ralph dress. It is very pretty. I hope she can wear on CNY next year. We may let her wear for Christmas depending on how much ashlynn grows by then. We shopped around and felt that ashlynn was more cranky than usual. She might be tired (from the long day), teething (suspect that her 2 upper teeth are sprouting out) or just naughty.

In the night, she started crying pitifully halfway through her sleep. We didn't know what happened. Daddy was not able to calm her down. We quickly applied the Detinox teething gel for her. She was still wailing off. But when I carried her over, she stopped crying. haha... She prefers mummy? Jealous daddy said it was because the detinox was taking effect. Sour grape! hahaha...

We are going to the zoo today. More updates when we are back!
