Some Updates from the 'Hotel' Stay 29 Jul '10

It's 7.30am now. I just bathed and is expressing milk. For the past two days, I am mostly alone with Master Ashton, this is what the hospital calls him, except for visits from the grandparents and daddy popped by after work. Initially I could pumped whenever I like coz Ashton is always sleeping, drowsy from the medication I suppose. Yesterday he was more alert so I could only pump when he was in a good mood. I also have to wait for the close ones to be here before I could scute off to have a quick shower with no face lotion, conditioner and hair cream (sob...)

Some things to blog down:
1) throw away ebm thrice ranging from 55ml to 80ml as I was too lazy to walk to the nursery to chill them.
2) known as the productive and hardworking mummy who keeps pumping and ensuring that there is supply of food for master Ashton.
3) totally shut off from the outside world as this room has no windows facing outside. Dun even know if it's raining or sky is dark or bright. I also have not seen our house with the window grills just installed.
4) Ashlynn wanted to talk to me so granny called. She called mummy and I ask her if she missed mummy. She burst out crying inconsolably. Granny took over the phone and asked me what did I say to her. She must have missed me a lot. I told her I will be back with Ashton today. Please let Ashton be well again!!! I must remember to buy her a story book as promised.
5) My first meetup with the new maid was at the hospital. Her first day was the day Ashton was admitted. How 'lucky'. So far granny commented that she is quite ok. But this is only the beginning. Maid woes usually surface later right?
6) Ashton was being praised as an easy baby by the physiotherapist. It think it is pretty much because he is sedated by the medication. He is obviously different at home. But I'm proud of him. He has been very cooperative.
7) I get to drink TMC's signature fish and papaya soup everyday. Milk booster!
8) I get to see the adorable newborns everyday.
9) Ashton pooed, peed and merlioned all at once yesterday. What a sight!

Waiting for my breakfast and the pd to come. Hopefully Ashton will be given the green light to be discharged. Please....

Ashton given the nebuliser every 4 hourly.

Hospital Day 2 27 Jul '10

This is the second day but Ashton is not getting better. Appetite is poor and breastmilk has been discarded feed after feed.

The PD sent him for an X-ray as he has slight fever. The result shows that there is a clot of phlegm in the right lung and it's too far from the throat to be expelled out.

His hospital stay is extended another day, which means I am stuck here. I think at the end of the stay, our lil precious has lost weight whereas I have gained some. It's hard not to as I am eating like I just delivered (hospital meals + tea breaks) + more snacks in between from jollibean and home. It's not helping that I'm not moving around much being confined in the ward.

Hope that he will get well soon and we can go home.

Poor Ashton 26 Jul '10

Poor little Ashton has been admitted in the hospital due to his cough and congested nose.

The nurse took his phlegm for lab test. He also had blood drawn. He was sleeping throughout. The physiotherapist just came do a short session of physiotherapy with him, apparently to loosen his phlegm.

I will be with him in the hospital these few days. To think that our new helper is arriving today and I can't be around to orientate her. Daddy actually took leave to go to the movies with me tomorrow. It will be changed to pak tor-ing in the hospital.

Hope our little precious will fight the dreadful virus and get well soon!

My Best Pump 22 Jul '10

I have always swore by my medela PISA as it helped me to increase supply and prolonged my breastfeeding career.

Never encountered the problem of blocked ducts until yesterday, I realized that there were a few stubborn lumps. I squeezed, pressed, massaged to no avail. Even Ashlynn came to lend me a hand. She even commented that my boobs were hot. I started to worry as I began to develop a low grade fever. My body was aching already. I pumped but little milk came out. By night time, even daddy commented that the breast is very lumpy. I was desperate and decided to get Ashton to help. Read about football hold so I tried it. Very back aching as I think I did it wrongly. However, 10 minutes later, most lumps were gone.

Yippee! should gave just latched him from the start. Then I need not suffer the whole day. After the lumps were cleared, milk started squirting out again :)

Racial Harmony Day 21 Jul '10

Ashlynn has not been well (yes, again!) the past few days. But since we have all been looking forward for her to wear this Malay costume for RHD, we decided to let her go to school to join in the celebration, where they will be having potluck. Parents are to bring some traditional ethnic foods for sharing.

We thought she looks good in gold colour as she is quite fair. She tripped over a few times as the dress is slim cut and she walked too fast. Haha... Not ladylike enough.

I also joined in the fun by putting on my kebaya.

Mister Smiley 20 Jul '10

Managed to capture these shots while I was expressing. Couldn't resist his smile. He must be feeling happy that mummy is working hard to make sure he has milk to drink.

Oh ya, he was having stuffy nose and coughing. So I brought him to the PD. He weighs 6.05kg at 9 weeks plus.

Meet up with Baby Elijah 14 Jul '10

Elijah and Ashton

Brought Ashton over to Cherlyn's place to visit baby Elijah, who is born 1 day earlier. Spent 1 hour plus catching up with Cherlyn.

Change 14 Jul '10

Starting from 14 Jul '10, I stopped latching Ashton in the daytime. Will do bottle feeding and pumping. At night I will continue to latch. Hopefully I can continue this when I return to work.

Somehow I feel guilty for not latching him. If you ask me why I don't want to latch him, I think it is due to a few reasons. Firstly, schedule can be established. I cam roughly estimate his next feed while breastfeeding can be quite erratic. Secondly, convenience as others can bottle feed him if I'm not free. Thirdly, I'm sick of pumping after latching!! Though this really boosted my supply. I can sense that supply has dipped these few days as I am latching much lesser.

Well, I think I should not be so obsessed with the amount I pump. As long as he has enough, I should be contented.

Gathering with Feb '08 Mummies 13 Jul '10

Had a great time catching up with friends from the SMH forum at Coffee Club. Wish we could stay longer but everyone has the own schedule to follow and I had to rush back to fetch Ashlynn from childcare.

The 3 baby boys are born 2 weeks apart.

We had a pre-celebration at Seafood Paradise at Defu Lane. We had a good dinner as both kids were cooperative throughout dinner.

Ashton slept throughout dinner in his infant car seat.

Shopping for Shoes 10 Jul '10

Our little princess is quite vain for her age. She tries on shoes and even walk to the entrance of the shop to show daddy, who is waiting outside with didi. That was because mummy did that and she followed suit.

2nd Month Updates

Together with the grandparents, we brought Ashton for his 1st 6-in-1 and rotavirus jab today.

He weighs 5.425kg at 7-week plus. Dr Ong said he's growing well. After the vaccination, we went for lunch then shopped around. We bought some clothes for the kids. I find children's clothes so irresistible that I just can't stop buying for them.

Another update. I actually gave him the pacifier yesterday as he refused to be put down. He enjoyed sucking on it but cried every time it dropped out from his mouth. End up I was busy picking up his pacifier.

New Hat 30 Jun '10

As Ashlynn was going on an excursion to the zoo, daddy bought her a lovely pink hat.
She decided to put it on and modelled around the house.

We were told by teacher that she behaved well on the trip. Well done, girl!
